disappointing March 11, 2010 Jeff (Philadelphia, PA) I was led to believe that this was a powerful machine. Yeah right! I even called every company selling this product and they all told me how great it was and how powerful it was. I need something strong because of the noise in my apartment building. The reviews on here were also great, so I took my chances. When I received it, I was terribly disappointed. It was no more powerful that the Marpac 980, which I also think is not nearly powerful enough for my situation. I hear people say that these machines are too loud. I can't understand how they come up with that. I returned the Marsona 330, and then I tried the Ecotones Duet---I am finally happy.
Excellent so far, cheap switch March 5, 2010 David J. Delaurant (Fresno, CA USA) This is a simple and effective device. My one gripe is the 3-position slide switch on the back is cheap and sticky, which is false economy in something with a such hefty price tag.
It isn't hard to work around this weakness: I leave the switch on my unit in my preferred 'on' position and turn on the power through a power strip. This also shuts off power to the AC adapter when it isn't in use, which I prefer to do anyway.
Works great, produces nice, white noise February 19, 2010 R1234 We had been using a large box fan in our bedroom, as my wife is a light sleeper and needs the white noise. I found her the TSC-330 for Christmas, and boy, I should have bought this thing years ago. First, it's nice and small. It's great for travel, about the size of a medium book, but you need a battery adapter (not included) if you won't be near an outlet. Still, when it's time to go camping in the summer, I think I'll pick it up.
I was worried about whether it would produce a nice, regular white noise sound, as the sounds advertised are surf, rainfall, and waterfall. But it doesn't sound that much like any of those things, and the tone's somewhat adjustable, so it's easy to find something comfortable. It's always background, you never notice it at all.
All in all, I completely recommend this.
Effective, but with some irritations February 11, 2010 chesterh (Londonderry, NH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My shopping criteria were:
1) A simple white noise machine to mask tinnitus and extraneous noises (snoring dogs, fighting cats, etc)
2) Decent sound quality, without annoying repetitions/transitions
3) Compact, unobtrusive, and convenient
I purchased the Marsona TSC-330 because lower priced machines seem to have problems with sound quality. In addition, many claim an array of special sound effects which are often reported to be ineffective, and which violate the KISS principle. Simple is good.
I am satisfied with the sonic output of the Marsona, and use it every night. It does the job. However, it is not without its annoyances, and in today's electronics marketplace, it is outrageously overpriced for its functionality (for example, consider that you can buy a DVD player with a full-function remote for half this price).
The on/off switch is extremely flimsy and stiff. It is a three-position sliding switch, with the off position in the center. Sliding it to one extreme turns on the constant white noise, and at the other extreme, it activates the variable white noise (a crude wave sound). The switch is recessed into a tight nook located at the bottom rear of the unit, the least accessible location imaginable (unless they placed it inside the cabinet, requiring a screwdriver to access). It is sometimes necessary to pick the unit up and turn it around to operate the switch, which has a tendency to overshoot the central "off" position no matter how carefully it is maneuvered. A real nuisance for the most-used control.
The two remaining controls, volume and tone, are sliders located under the side wings of the unit. I set them once and don't mess with them, but again, their location and orientation are poor - you need to flip the unit upside down to see which is which.
I am rating the product 3 stars, though 2.5 is more realistic. To earn 5 stars, especially in view of its price, the Marsona should:
1) Mount the controls in an accessible location.
2) Use a decent quality power switch.
3) Provide a simple on/off remote control. Instructions recommend that the unit be placed on the opposite side of the room for maximum effectiveness. A bedside remote would be helpful.
4) Enable battery power so that the unit is truly travel-friendly.
I am confident that these improvements could be made while preserving the manufacturer's high profit margin, and would result in a product that not only helped me sleep better - at home or on the road - but also made me feel that some thought went into its (usability) design.
The emphasis should be on "white noise" January 26, 2010 John A. Kingman (New York, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although this product claims to have rain and wave sounds, the only sound it makes (in different volumes and pitches) is static. It's about as pleasant as falling asleep with the tv untuned, which used to be possible back in the days before cable. That's not to say that this is a bad product, and certainly it's possible people enjoy listening to static before they fall asleep, but I do not.
