Very handy product. Buy a few extra as gifts. January 6, 2009 L. Chang (Hawaii) Works great and is the handiest thing to have. You need to practice weighing things at first. Don't let your bag swing; just dead lift straight up without jerking. As good as any other.
Best feature: holds the weight reading until you reset it.
NOT ACCURATE ! STAY AWAY! December 25, 2008 Howard P. Klopp (Chicago, IL United States) Tested the scale with a new, unopened 25 pound bag of rice. The scale registered 19 pounds. It was off 6 pounds or about 25% off the true weight. I tried weighing the sack several more times with the same result. I verified the new sack of rice was 25 pounds by using a bathroom scale. I also verified that the dial was set correctly to 0 before using. The scale I received was absolutely worthless. Stay away.
Every traveler should have one! December 22, 2008 Sharron F. Green (Eau Claire, WI) I bought three of these for each of the men in my life. My sons don't travel as much as we do, but I told them to just put them with their luggage. If they tend to over-pack, as so many do, a quick check before they leave will tell them their luggage weight. When we have travelled internationaly, the scale is a popular item among the hotel guests as we pack to leave. I could make $ on lending it out!
Works well, when the indicator hand is not loose December 20, 2008 David C. Becker (Overseas) This is a perfectly cheap, functional and handy way to weigh suitcases, except when it breaks. You can fix this though. Other reviews have already mentioned this "minor" flaw, and cursed the cheap manufacture, and I kicked myself when after using it 5 times, the red indicator started showing ridiculous weights. I figured out that it was because the indicator hand had come loose. The problem is that the read hand has to push the black had around to show the maximum weight measured. The design flaw is that the red hand can't push the black indicator round without coming loose on the spindle. To fix it, take the clear cover off by pulling on the black knob in the center of the clear plastic cover and push the red hand up to 0 (when there is no weight on the scale of course). Then add a couple of drops of acrylic instant or super glue to the center where the red touches the center metal spindle. Wait a few hours, then put the cover back on and it should work fine. This can save an otherwise lost scale. I find the scale can easily be off 5 pounds, but it is consistently off, so just adjust against a better scale or the airport scales.
Junk, breaks easily and when you actually NEED it. December 17, 2008 Tom Joad (California) I paid a bit more than the price here, so maybe I had higher expectations. This device does work and is pretty accurate. HOWEVER, critical inner parts such as the dials are made out of very thin and cheap plastic and mine broke at a very inopportune time - leaving me to do the "unpack at the counter" routine to meet the limits. I tore it apart and glued things together and it worked for a while, but this last trip the suitcase slipped off the hook (easy to happen with a 50# bag and half hook), the dials spun around suddenly and it's now dead for sure.
Now I'm looking for a solid fish scale and/or digital scale WITH A SECURE HOOK that is meant to stand up to years of use. Remember - if you come to rely on having a scale and it breaks during your trip, you are at the mercy of the airline counter's scale or finding one at your hotel. This is an area where you should invest in a quality tool, and this design is NOT quality.
