terrific home design tips geared toward wealthier people March 23, 2008 Matthew G. Sherwin 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
New York Home magazine provides its readers with a plethora of advertisements that actually do some good--they give you wonderful suggestions for how to furnish a new home. This is, of course, equally as valuable to those of us who are remodeling. The quality of the paper is quite good and the binding of the magazine is well done, too.
At first it may seem like all they do is give you ads--but those ads are invaluable as tips for interior decorating so that you don't have to hire an interior decorator. The ads usually tell you how to contact the furniture store or manufacturer to buy the furniture or similar furniture for your home.
In addition, there are interesting articles throughout the magazine; many of them deal with how to manage space because space is at such a premium in the greater New York metropolitan area. Yes, there are more ads and "plugs" for merchandise hidden in these articles as well; but then again how would you know where to shop for these things without the correct contact information?
One word of caution here: this magazine has expensive furniture. I mean, REALLY expensive furniture. They show decorating tips for Manhattan penthouses and Park Avenue co-op apartments. If you want suggestions for people on a lower budget I would definitely suggest a similar magazine but one that is geared toward the middle class.
Overall, this still is a great magazine that serves an important purpose, even with the ads they use to bombard you with tips and suggestions. I recommend this magazine for people who are comfortable spending larger amounts of money on decorating and furnishing their homes. People in the middle class (like me) can only dream of 99% of these ideas; find a similar magazine instead.
