4 out of 5 stars Catchy and Fun...   March 4, 2009

If the band Cobra Starship intended for a listener like me to blast their CD in my car while driving everywhere, they are indeed a success. This is one of my new favorite albums only because it so frothy and catchy. Irrisistable is the word I would use to better describe it. It fuses electronica with alternative rock effortlessly, delivering dance floor ready tracks with a grungy edge. I'm not saying this is punk in style though as the lyrics kind of keep it more at a 'tongue-in-cheek' level.
Featuring an array of titles that would be better suited for a Panic! at the Disco album, it cannot be denied that this group intends to provoke fun with its music. While there aren't really any provocative lyrics, so to speak, some of the songs are quite crafty. 'Damn You Look Good and I'm Dunk' is a humerous song about discovering that a potential date is not really a "real" girl. The comical dialogue, while spiked with hints of humor, takes away from the song as it comes off a bit amaturish... but it is a small thing that can easily be overlooked.
The entire album has a bit of a pop feel to it, which I enjoy. For the most part, it is a fun ride with some venture's into 'slow-down'area that hardly detract from the appeal of the set.
This was recommended to me by someone else who saw that I was searching for electronica music and I have to say that I am not at all disapointed. How could I be with the amount of fun this album makes me wanna have?

4 out of 5 stars not bad...   September 29, 2008
I'll admit, the first time i heard this album I was not incredibly impressed. a few songs stood out, but it seemed to lack the vitality an album as a whole should possess. after a few more listens to each of the songs, I learned to like it, and found myself actually enjoying the entire record. No, the lyrics aren't the best, and obviously some of the titles are a bit ridiculous (as evidenced by the title, "Viva la Cobra"), but if you look past that and listen to how well all the instruments mesh together for a pop-techno collaborative feel, its a very enjoyable album. The City is at War and Smile for hte Paparazzi are songs that the DJ SHOULD be playing at school dances. Perhaps its just my nify $40 headphones, but i certainly endorse this album, and recommend you dish out the $10 or so to buy this album.

2 out of 5 stars Dropped the ball   July 29, 2008

I found Cobra Starship when they came up on my Pandora Radio station a couple years ago. They were fun and catchy. So after I started singing along with at least three of their songs, I picked up the album. I like it, and I still pop it in once in a while. It was far from a profound music experience - just light fun.

Then this album came out, and I hesitated after hearing the previews, but I bought it anyways. Unfortunately, it feels like one of those albums where they took all the songs they cut from the first album and threw it onto the second just to make a quick buck. For a sophomore album, it sure sounds like an amateur effort. Very disappointing. I'm surprised the producer even let this through. The attempt at retro-funk comes off sounding like your college dorm mate's MIDI music compilation he made on his laptop. And while I wasn't expecting mind blowing lyrics, they are just laughable.

Avoid this one. It has nothing to bring to the table.
