5 out of 5 stars Great Rollers! But here are some tips...   October 20, 2008

I was looking for a decent set of electric rollers to style my hair on the go (I'm usually packed up and not home just about every weekend, and I wanted to look nice). They worked so well that by the time I had finished rolling my last curl, the first one was ready to be taken out.

These rollers are EXCELLENT! They do exactly what they're supposed to do.

However, please read the following comments before deciding to purchase them.

1) The rollers do not get super hot. Here's why. They are IONIC rollers, they're not supposed to get super super hot. The IONIC technology helps promote shine, and less static, but it's partially due to the fact that it uses less heat to do so.

2) The rollers do heat up quickly. But two-three minutes is not enough. I left it plugged in for about 10 minutes, and that worked a lot better. Also, since they don't get Super Hot (like explained above) I suggest leaving them plugged in for 10 minutes WITH the cover closed (for optimal heating temperature) and then leaving them on your hair for ten minutes. It gives the hair a little time to set, and you'll be very pleased. Though, after the 10 minutes, the rollers are hot. Not so hot to burn your fingers, but hot enough to surprise you a bit. But it's not unbearable.

3) The pins do work, though they take some practice. When you're not running out the door, take a few minutes to practice rolling your hair and then securing the pins. It will help you get a feel for not only how to roll your hair, but how to secure the pins.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Once you've taken everything else into consideration (see above) then these rollers are well worth the money. The set heats up in a reasonable amount of time, the curls are quite bouncy and pretty when finished, and the set is ultra compact. If you have shoulder length hair, then this product is just right. I have relaxed, layered shoulder length hair and the product worked perfectly once those [above] items were considered.

Above all, I highly recommend these rollers. =)

5 out of 5 stars Great hot rollers for beginners   October 18, 2008

This is my first set of hot rollers. I have shortish (just below my jawline) hair that is really resistant to curling. Ever since I got seriously burned on the neck as a child with a curling iron I haven't liked those, but I love the "big volume" look curling gives my hair. I got these as an inexpensive way to try out hot rollers and I really liked them. They are very easy to use - they heat quickly, but don't get so hot that they're difficult to handle. They gave my hair great bounce and volume that lasted all the way through an evening wedding, something that has been difficult for me to achieve with velcro rollers or a hairbrush and a blowdryer.

A couple of notes about these:

- They do take a bit of practice. There's a row of comb-like teeth on one side to grab your hair. You need to use small sections of hair - smaller than you might think. At first my hair wasn't rolling onto the rollers, then I tried using thinner, smaller sections of hair and they worked with no trouble. I have fairly fine, stick-straight hair and with practice I was able to get these to work perfectly. If you have very coarse, straight hair you may need to try a velour-covered roller (which these aren't) to get your hair to "grab" the roller.

- Unless you have a lot of experience, forget the roller pins that come with the set and get a set of Conair roller clips (also sold on Amazon) to use with the set. The Conair clips cover the rollers perfectly, hold the rollers tightly, and don't make you want to tear your hair out from frustration, like the pins will.

- If you're looking for very hot heat from rollers (or need it to get your hair to curl) these may not be the best choice. They do heat up but it's not really REALLY hot, like I've seen described with other rollers. The amount of heat worked great for my hair (curled without damage) but very, very resistant hair might need more heat than these provide. I liked this amount of heat because I could handle the rollers without fear of burning myself, or fear of frying my hair crispy.

All in all, I really liked these rollers. Easy to learn with, and I love that they're portable and not too large in diameter (better for use with shorter hair).

I bought this wanting curlers that heat up quickly and got just what I needed! Bonus is its compact size so I bring the kit whenever I need a quick curl fix. Fast and easy! I have thick hair and it does the job.

5 out of 5 stars Over a year later and still great!   June 18, 2008

I have used the Conair Compact curlers for more than a year and a half, about four or five times each month, for a change of pace/style. It heats up in only a couple of minutes, great for busy days (which is everyday). Hot enough to set curls rapidly, these rollers are still cool enough to pick up and use. The compact size is very convenient for storage and travel. I find that there are plenty of blue rollers to give body and gentle curls to thick, shoulder-length hair. I would absolutely purchase this Conair set again.
